Lawlessness

Are you sick of it yet?

The Book of Habakkuk was written around 612 BC.  They lived with lots of lawlessness. Habakkuk was a Prophet and a straight shooter.  If he didn’t understand events and people around him, he ran to God and asked a bunch of questions.  Isn’t that wonderful?   He didn’t feel the need to struggle on his own.

I’m not one for lengthy blogs so I’m not going to go into depth about this story.   You may want to read or review it as it is only 3 chapters.

I am here to make a comparison between our world today and Habakkuk’s world in 612 BC.  The story doesn’t change and it gives so much hope in 2022.

Habakkuk Complained to God:

1:3 Why do you make me look at injustice?
    Why do you tolerate wrongdoing?
Destruction and violence are before me;
    there is strife, and conflict abounds.

2022…With all the lawlessness happening, haven’t you questioned it?

?????????????????????????????????????

The Lord’s Answer:

1:5 “Look at the nations and watch—
    and be utterly amazed.
For I am going to do something in your days
    that you would not believe,
    even if you were told.

2022…Relating to now, if you know Bible Prophecy, God will be doing utterly amazing things!

And God Also Said:

1:11 Guilty people,  whose strength is their god.

2022…Do lawless people nowadays rely on God, or is their own strength, their god?

??????????????????????????????????????

Habakkuk’s Second Complaint:

1:13 Why then do you tolerate the treacherous?
    Why are you silent while the wicked
    swallow up those more righteous than themselves?

2022…Habakkuk is struggling with God’s answer of everything will be alright.  He again questions God as to why He is tolerating wickedness.  Do you see and hear the evil around you and question why God isn’t doing anything about this?

🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

God’s Answer:

2:4  “See, the enemy is puffed up;
    his desires are not upright—
    but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness

2022…God says He sees, don’t worry.  He also sees that the righteous (holy in heart) will be faithful to God, no matter what!

🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

And God Gives His Ultimate Assurance:

2:20 The Lord is in his holy temple;
    let all the earth be silent before him.

2022…Yes!  HE is there for all of us and we only need to know Him!

Habakkuk Finally Succumbs:

3:17  Though the fig tree does not bud
    and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
    and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
    and no cattle in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
    I will be joyful in God my Savior.

2022…Habakkuk figures out that he doesn’t need to know why there is so much lawlessness.   He is saying that everything can be stripped from him.  He only needs God, his Savior.  Isn’t this beautiful?!

Me too Jesus, I only need you!  I am so happy your promises are being fulfilled and I don’t need to know everything.   It is so wonderful to have you to rely on at all times.  My heart is full of love for you and I have your complete assurance that you will deliver those that are faithful to you from all lawlessness and evil.  Thank you Jesus.  I love you so much.  Amen.  ❤❤❤

  1. Those last verses in Habbakuk, I have always found very encouraging. To cling to God despite the evil we see in the world and know that He is in control and all we need to do is set our eyes on Him. A good post Marla and a good comparison of those times and now.
