Scottie Scheffler – Best Golfer in the World
Continuing my introvert series, I’m including Mr Scheffler.

My husband, Dave, likes to watch golf and as I popped in and out of the TV room back in January, not knowing Scottie at all, I’d ask “Why doesn’t that guy smile much?”
Then we saw him at the Phoenix Open, walking past, ten feet away, and I wondered “Why isn’t he looking at the crowd and smiling like Phil Mickelson does?” When we were at the 16th hole and there was a cacophony of applause for Scottie, he didn’t pay any attention and seemed like he didn’t want any part of this adventurous crowd. I thought it was rather odd.
Well, there’s a good answer.
Scottie Scheffler is an introvert! “Reserved, unassuming, quiet natured, focused, humble ambiance, doesn’t seek the spotlight ” are words used to describe him.
Ah, I get it now!
As an introvert, I used to feel pressured teaching computers and being part of the help desk, in my career. So many people.
So how does Scottie cope being in front of mega crowds, in person and on world TV each week, being an introvert?! Ugh! ๐คข๐ฅถ๐ตโ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฑ
Dave shared a heartfelt interview with me (after Scottie’s bazillionth tournament win) and he has qualities we both admire very much.
Here are the highlights of Scottie’s priorities and attitude:
The world No. 1 told the media: โThis is not the most important thing in my life.
I’d much rather be a great father than I would be a great golfer. At the end of the day, that’s what’s more important to me.
In the build-up to the 153rd Open, he admitted that if golf interfered with his family life with wife Meredith, 29, and their one-year-old son Bennett, he would simply hang up his putter and walk away.”
His wife feels the same:
Before the big day, Meredith wrote on her Instagram: “YES! I canโt believe God gave me my best friend to spend the rest of my life with, canโt wait to be your wife, Scottie!!!!โ
AI Overview…
Centrality of Faith:
Scheffler has consistently emphasized that his faith is the most important aspect of his life, even more so than his accomplishments in golf.
Practicing his Faith:
He participates in Bible studies with his caddie, Ted Scott, and other players, and he and his wife, Meredith, also host an annual ministry retreat for college golfers.
Faith and Golf:
Scheffler believes his faith provides him with peace and a sense of security, helping him to handle pressure and maintain perspective regardless of his performance on the golf course.
Not a “Bible Thumper”:
While Scheffler is open about his faith, he does not push it on others or come across as overly preachy, according to Yahoo Sports.
While he doesn’t consider himself a “huge reader,” he mentions that the Bible and a devotional book are on his bedside table, along with another spiritual book. According to Soul Surmise, when asked about books he was reading, “the Bible and a devotional” were the first words out of his mouth. He also stated that his favorite Bible verse is the Aaronic benediction from Numbers 6:24-26.
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

I think Scottie perfectly describes that fame, fortune, success, power, pleasures…they are all fleeting. They are all false idols if you allow them to be.
Choose Jesus.
Philippians 2:9-11
Therefore, God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

He is so very inspiring!

Never knew about him. Not a fan of golf. But thanks for sharing this, very inspiring to see someone handle all the attention in that way and be open but not overbearing about their faith.

Scottie sounds like a class act and a great mentor for young golfers-or anyone! Being humble in a successful position such as his is a virtue. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about him, Marla. ๐
