Are you familiar with Nextdoor.com? It’s an online neighborhood app where you join the area you live. It’s supposed to be the modern way you meet and socialize with your neighbors. Personally, my real life next door neighbors are super awesome and we are very blessed.
This nextdoor app is useful for doctor, car mechanic, pet sitter recommendations. Or if a road is blocked due to an accident. Or if a new Costco coming. Any topic goes and it’s informative and entertaining because people love to give their opinions and knowledge!
BUT, so many threads that start out as innocent information, turn into hateful conversations. Like the Costco discussion started as “Does anyone know if a Costco is coming to Carefree Hwy?” About 30 people were sharing what they knew. Ok fine. Then one guy said something like he wishes all the riff raff had never moved up this way because he bought in this area to get away from people and now he’s going to have to move again. The way he worded it was an attack on the previous person and started an online brawl, others jumping in, fists raised.
So what would Jesus do?
In Matthew 4:4, Jesus answered satan, with respect!!!
The whole passage is: 4 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Satan was tempting Jesus when Jesus was very weak from fasting. Relating to weakness, I think I’m all peaches and cream in the morning but as the day wears on and I get tired and weak, I grow horns and am pretty cranky. No one knows this better than my husband!
So Jesus, being very weak and hungry, seemed quite entitled to blast satan with some very unkind words, to say the least. But He didn’t. He gave a respectful, teachable answer!
WHAT A ROLE MODEL OUR JESUS IS! His behavior makes me want to be respectful to all the taunting, ignoramus’s I encounter. 🤗❤🙂
Dear Jesus, please let only kind words flow from our mouths, and hearts. Let us not be tempted by all the misguided brutes we encounter in our daily lives. We love you. Amen.
