Simple Test 🎖

Do you like “simple?”  I do.  I even get a magazine called “Real Simple.”  haha

God makes it simple.  God wants us to dwell on good things:

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”  Phil 4:8

BUT what is still admirable?

I was reading our local town newspaper and as I skimmed each article, I started a simple flowchart in my mind:

   -Does this article make me LOVE GOD, more or less?

   -Does this article make me LOVE PEOPLE, more or less?

         -If more, continue reading.

         -If less, turn the page.

Apply to every choice during the day.

Example…Does getting angry because driver behind me is tailgating, make me love God/people, more or less?   If answer is less, slow down so driver can pass or pull to side of road.  Result: I pleased God and helped minimize stress for a fellow human.  Bonus is I feel good for choosing to love.

30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”  Mark 12:30-31

  1. Philippians 4:8 is what I try to follow in my life, but like all of us, I sometimes look at things, or think about things, that I shouldn’t, and then I temporarily lose my inner peace.

    Interesting, Marla, that we are told to love God with all our ‘heart’, and ‘soul’, and ‘mind’ and ‘strength’ , and thus begins the age-old discussion of what the soul is, as these words are mentioned separately.
    Nevertheless, let us not complicate the words of our Lord, but simply love Him and keep our focus on Him, and on serving our neighbours.

    1. Hi Sally! Yes, thinking impure thoughts (aka worrying for me) makes me lose inner peace. But as soon as my mind is flooded with positive grateful pure thoughts, zoom…I become so joyful!
